Laissez les bons temps rouler!

If you don't speak Mardi Gras, that means, "let the good times roll". If you don't know me, I'm more than capable of embracing such an expression, especially in the company of my own family. I'd like to note that a more appropriate translation for this phrase would be, "eat, drink and parade until the feeling of being miserably full and buzzed becomes you".

Not only does my family enjoy throwing a good party, but we absolutely love to serve some exquisite eats! My Dad was born in Oklahoma and raised in LA, or as he likes to call it... Lower Alabama. Cajun cooking and immense amounts of flavor are right up his alley and I've learned to take advantage of his knowledge over the years. So you can imagine the excitement I felt boiling up inside when my parents told me that we were hosting a Mardi Gras dinner club party! And while the Purple Haze beer was good, there is no denying that the Cajun themed spread was even better. There was imported Mardi Gras beer, pickled okra, the finest shrimp mold my eyes have ever laid eyes on, steamed oysters, alligator beignets and two gargantuan pots of gumbo that would light your taste-buds on fire!

Unfortunately, we didn't have a traditional King's Cake on display at this year's party; However, we still celebrated the centuries old concept of hiding a baby - just not in the cake. Instead, we hid one of the little plastic bundles of joy under a special guest's chair at random. The winner not only got to choose a decadent bottle of wine, but is also responsible for bringing the King's Cake next year in accordance with the Mardi Gras tradition.

I will be featuring a few recipes from some of my favorite dishes today on the Wine & Dine section of the blog. Feel free to check those out if you are interested in experimenting with some Cajun Cooking!

Left to Right, Top to Bottom: Someone's Grandma's Louisiana Shrimp Mold, Another Lady's Gumbo, the biggest steamed oysters of life, Alligator Beignets, more oysters, Gumbo fit for a Mardi Gras King.

CHEERS, HAPPY MARDI GRAS, LAISSEZ LES BONS TEMPS ROULER, ROULER ME OFF TO MY BED!
